The challenge
Most wellbeing apps fight for minutes of attention: more content, more streaks, more push notifications. The result is another feed to fall behind on - the opposite of calm. We wanted to build the inverse: an app whose entire daily footprint is one meaningful thought.
One insight a day only works if it is the right insight. A generic quote broadcast to everyone is wallpaper; a thought matched to what a person actually needs - motivation, calm, focus, faith, perspective - is something worth returning to during the day.
That made the product problem a personalization problem, and the design problem one of restraint: an onboarding that learns enough to personalize without feeling like a form, and an interface quiet enough to carry a single sentence with weight.
What we built
The onboarding shapes everything. A short flow asks what the person is working toward and what kind of support they want - across goals and insight types - then lets them choose the exact time their daily insight should arrive. From there, KamiDay disappears into the background of the day: one thought, delivered at the chosen moment.
Eliza designed the app around quiet: a morning-light visual language, generous space around the words, and motion that feels like a breath rather than an animation showcase - down to the animated splash that opens the app like a curtain.
Oleh engineered the app in React Native with TypeScript, with sign-in through Google and Apple, and a Firebase backend - authentication, database, cloud functions, and messaging - handling personalization and the precisely timed daily delivery. Notifications are the product's heartbeat, so they are engineered to arrive exactly on schedule.
KamiDay shipped through the same discipline as Tanaroom and Kloki Planner before it: real-device testing, store review, and the patience to release it right. It is the third product in a row our two-person core team has taken from a blank page to the stores.
One insight, once a day
No feed, no backlog, no catching up. A single meaningful thought each day, short enough to remember and worth carrying with you.
Personalization without a questionnaire
A short onboarding - goals, insight types, delivery time - is all it takes for the daily thought to fit the person rather than the average user.
Delivery at the chosen moment
The insight arrives when the person wants it: with the morning coffee or before the day winds down. A wheel-picker makes choosing the time feel effortless.
Sign-in that stays out of the way
Google and Apple sign-in with a persistent session: one tap on first launch, never again after that.
A calm visual language
Morning-light imagery, soft motion, and typography built to carry one sentence with weight. The design is the product's tone of voice.
Multilingual from day one
The app is built with localization in its foundations, so insights can meet people in their own language.
